Pet Dentistry
Dental health is usually a forgotten part of pet care, but good dental care can make a big difference in your pet’s health.
Redlands Animal Hospital offers comprehensive pet dentistry services to keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy for a comfortable, pain-free mouth. From routine exams to advanced treatments, our goal is to provide thorough dental care that supports the health and quality of life of cats and dogs in the Redlands, CA area.
Routine Dental Care Matters
Regular dental care keeps your pet’s teeth and gums healthy, as well as detects and addresses oral health issues. During your pet’s annual wellness exam, our veterinarians will check their mouth for signs of plaque buildup, gum disease, or other issues. Since a physical exam alone does not reveal below the gumline, we recommend yearly dental cleanings with digital dental X-rays to catch hidden issues and maintain oral health. We also encourage pet parents to brush their pet’s teeth regularly and use dental treats to reduce plaque buildup. Consistent at-home care contributes to better oral health and fewer costly or painful dental issues for your pet over time.

Teeth Cleanings: Keeping Cat and Dog Mouths Healthy
A professional pet dental cleaning from a veterinarian is a key component of preventive dental care. Our pet teeth cleaning services include scaling and polishing your pet’s teeth to remove plaque and tartar buildup that even regular brushing can’t eliminate. All of our cleanings are performed on one of our two advanced dental suite tables. We also use digital dental X-rays to assess the health of your pet’s teeth and gums more thoroughly, as many dental problems can be concealed beneath the surface. This comprehensive approach helps us identify any potential issues. All pet dental cleanings will require bloodwork prior to the procedure for anesthesia safety.
Tooth Extractions for Pets
Sometimes, dental X-rays reveal that a tooth is damaged, infected, or otherwise needs to be removed. In these cases, your veterinarian may recommend a tooth extraction as part of a pet dental cleaning. If an extraction is necessary, we’ll contact you during the procedure to discuss the tooth in question and obtain your consent, so please keep your phone available. Removing problematic teeth can relieve pain, prevent further infections, and improve your pet’s quality of life.
A Treatment for Periodontal Disease: Clindoral™

For pets with periodontal concerns, we may recommend Clindoral™ treatments as part of their dental care. Clindoral™ is a periodontal filler applied to the gums to help manage and treat the early stages of periodontal disease in pets by reducing bacterial buildup and inflammation in the gum tissue. This treatment can be highly effective, especially for pets prone to dental issues, and may extend the time before a tooth needs to be removed. By helping control bacteria, Clindoral™ extends the benefits of a pet teeth cleaning.

Young Dog and Cat Dental Disease Prevention $350 Program
We believe in proactive dental care to prevent your pet from suffering serious health issues later in life. Our Young Dog and Cat Dental Disease Prevention Program is available for pets between 1-2 years old. Enrolled pets receive an annual dental cleaning, including polishing, dental X-rays, and a fluoride treatment, for a fixed discounted price per year until age 5. While we provide this service at a loss to our clinic, our goal is to make a lasting difference in our patients’ health.

Signs Your Pet Needs to Come In for a Dental Exam
There can be many different signs that your pet has a dental issue. For example, did you know that having persistent bad breath is actually not normal for pets? It’s usually a sign of dental disease and can even be a symptom of other issues like kidney disease. If you notice any of the following signs, we recommend bringing your pet in for a dental exam:
Persistent Bad Breath
Sudden Drooling or Difficulty Chewing
Red or Swollen Gums
Loose or Broken Teeth
Starting to Avoid Hard Foods or Treats
Pawing at the Mouth or Other Signs of Mouth Pain
Reduced Appetite or Unexplained Weight Loss
Regular dentistry matters for your pet’s health and happiness.
